Before there was Arthur, before there was Watson, before there was Rob, there was Persephone. She was my entry into young adulthood; my declaration of grown-up-ness. She was with me through it all: having a roommate, living alone, going to grad school, living with Rob (and Jake!), getting married, adopting Watson, buying a home, being pregnant, and bringing Arthur home. She handled the changes with grace and tolerance, learning to boss each of the new men in her life around with a firm, yet gentle paw.
She wasn't all perfect--we called her the "pee-rincess" for a reason and the very few times she encountered other cats, they ended up hiding under furniture. Percy liked being in charge, and she was good at it. She reminded me to sit still and enjoy being in one place. She taught Arthur to be gentle and patient. She forced snuggles upon Rob and gave Watson an alpha animal in his pack.
Percy was always in control of her world, and she let us know on Monday that it was time to let her go. I wish she could have stayed longer, but I know she is happier on the other side of this life, without pain, and probably with an endless buffet of white cheddar popcorn, empty laps, and dogs to boss around. She leaves behind a broken-hearted family that is grateful for every moment we shared with her. We love and miss you, Ms. Percy Cat. ❤️❤️❤️
